Commercial LED Retrofit
Kansas City lighting, designed in-house and installed by a Master Electrician's crew.
An LED retrofit replaces the fluorescent, metal halide or high-pressure sodium fixtures in a commercial building with LED — same locations, less power, better light. ThreeCo handles the whole job under one roof: Bob DeFries, our co-founder, designs it — his background is in electrical engineering and architectural design; a crew led by Master Electrician Jason Strange installs it; and the controls go in at the same time.
What we retrofit
Interior and exterior commercial lighting.
Interior troffers
The fluorescent troffers in offices, classrooms, clinics and retail — the fixture most commercial ceilings are full of.
Recessed can lights
The recessed downlights in lobbies, corridors, branches and offices — swapped for LED in the same openings.
High-bay
Warehouse, industrial and gym high-bay fixtures.
Exterior wall packs
Building-mounted security and entry lighting.
Canopy lighting
Covered entries, drive-throughs and loading docks.
Parking lot poles
Pole-mounted parking lot and site lighting.
How it works
How a ThreeCo LED retrofit works.
- 1
Walk-through
We walk the building, count and identify the existing fixtures, and note the spaces that need more or less light than they have. A full lighting audit with a photometric layout is available on request; it is not part of every quote.
- 2
Design and fixture selection
Bob DeFries, our co-founder, specifies the replacement fixtures and the controls. You get a written quote for the fixture list, the controls and the labor.
- 3
Install
We schedule the install with you, then a crew led by Master Electrician Jason Strange swaps the fixtures, fits the controls and handles any wiring the new fixtures need.
- 4
Controls and commissioning
Occupancy sensors, dimming and scheduling are wired, programmed and tested before we leave.
Rebates and incentives
Evergy rebates: we do the filing when a program is open.
Evergy has offered business lighting rebates for qualifying commercial LED upgrades. When a utility rebate program is open, ThreeCo handles the filing as part of the project — the paperwork is ours, not yours. Programs open and close on the utility's schedule, so we tell you where things stand when we quote rather than promising a number.
Controls
Lighting controls, designed with the fixtures.
Dimmers, occupancy sensors, scheduling, and smart integrations that give you control. A retrofit is the right moment to add them, because the ceiling is already open and the crew is already there — so we design the controls with the fixtures, not after.
A Kansas City retrofit
Mazuma Credit Union headquarters — Overland Park, Kansas
A commercial LED retrofit of the credit union's headquarters building — around 400 recessed can lights replaced with LED across the building, designed and installed by ThreeCo.

★★★★★
We've done several projects with the team, and have been very pleased with the results. Brendon and the back office are great, and the guys in the field are always respectful and responsive.
★★★★★
Amazing working with Bob's team. They did great work, cleaned up after themselves and helped me out by working around our store hours. Bob went above and beyond getting us into the light fixtures that we wanted in our store. Was very happy with the service and work.
FAQ
Questions we get about LED retrofits.
Do you handle Evergy rebates?
When a utility rebate program is open, yes — we file it as part of the project. Rebate programs open and close on the utility's schedule, so ask us where things stand when you are ready to quote; we will not promise rebate money that is not currently available.
What fixtures can be retrofitted?
Interior troffers, recessed can lights and high-bay fixtures; exterior wall packs, canopy lighting and parking lot poles.
Do you do the lighting design too?
Yes. Our co-founder Bob DeFries designs every retrofit; his background is in electrical engineering and architectural design. A full lighting audit with a photometric layout is available on request; it is not part of every quote.
How long does a retrofit take?
It depends on the fixture count and the building. We quote a schedule with the price.
Is there a warranty?
Yes. One year on workmanship, five years on materials.
How do I get a number?
Start with Watt, the chat button on this page. Tell it the building and roughly how many fixtures, and it goes straight to the team. You can also call (816) 730-9100. Estimates are free unless a site visit is needed to scope the job; where one is, there is a trip charge, waived if you move forward with the work.
Curious what a retrofit would cost for your building?
Tell Watt the building and a rough fixture count. We'll come back with a real number.
